Dear PCIA Families,
Last week, on January 25, we launched Semester 2, and it’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the school year. I continually find myself grateful and appreciative of PCIA staff and students’ efforts to maintain the DOH safety guidelines so we can continue to meet and learn in-person. I have several meetings throughout the week with state and local health officials that share continuous COVID-19 updates from our region and county. PCIA continues to be one of the few schools that has been able to remain open for its students to attend in-person daily. While the small size of our school provides more favorable conditions for in-person learning than larger districts, I also firmly believe we have been extremely diligent in keeping our school safe.
This spring, we are offering 15 College in the High School (CiHS) classes, or 67 college credits. Our sophomores, juniors, and seniors are each averaging 20 college credits this semester! I am so extremely proud of our students, as they continually impress me with their perseverance and determination to be academically successful while at PCIA. When community members ask me about the words I use to describe PCIA, I continually find myself sharing the foundation on which PCIA was built: College in the High School, relationship-based, STEM-focused, and individualized learning. Our students and staff embody this in their daily work, and the results we see from our students makes me proud to be their principal.
Our seniors have begun receiving acceptance letters from colleges and universities, and are finishing their quest to complete what they started as freshmen––graduate high school with several college credits! Our juniors and sophomores will be working with our academic advisor, in partnership with JA Inspire, and will participate in a virtual career fair next month. Our freshman is continuing her work in her Robotics class, building a robot that launches nerf rings into a basket.
We are starting to receive enrollment applications for next academic school year. We invite interested students to visit our campus and spend the day with us as a PCIA Owl for a Day! Prospective students can visit our school, interact with instructors and current PCIA students, and experience rigorous learning in small class sizes. For information on this program or to schedule your Owl for a Day visit, contact Dean of Students/Academic Advisor Kaylene Herman.
I am honored to serve as the principal of Pacific Crest Innovation Academy. It is truly a privilege to be part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that build academic and personal growth. Please feel free to contact me anytime at 509-538-2700 or brogers@millaschool.org.
Go Owls!
Sincerely,
Bob Rogers, Principal
